Montana State Wins the Big Sky + Thursday & Friday Preview

We start out by wrapping up the last conference tournament championship game until Saturday. The Big Sky championship finished well after midnight with two-seed Montana State beating nine-seed Northern Arizona, handing out 8 pool wins and creating a log jam in the standings. A standing update and analysis is towards the end of this blog entry, you need an engineering degree to decipher it! 🔍

In addition to our final completed conference tournament championship game for a few days, we had a few other games Wednesday night that impacted our pool. Starting in the SWAC  we watched (8) Texas Southern knock off (1) Alcorn State. Astonishingly, only 1 person picked Alcorn State, Brads Lads. We have 3 people on Texas Southern, maybe this is the team that pays out for the Lowest Winning Seed bonus pot. 💰 In the MAAC (10) Saint Peter's continued its 2022 magic and knocked off (2) Rider. Chris, Evan and Matthew took the pool loss.

This will likely be the last blog entry until Friday evening as the next 48 hours we will not have any conference tournament championship games. Over half the conferences will be in action and every day will be a bloodbath of losses as we try to make it to the weekend. The only conference that has not yet started is the Ivy League since they only have a 4 team tournament. I will continue to update the standings on a regular basis, feel free to check often. It's hard to beleive we only have 4 days of this left. 😢

We'll wrap up this blog entry by analyzing and breaking down the current standings which are located here. While it may look dire for some and fantastic for others, remember that we are less than 50% complete, things can change quick with the 18 championship games coming up this weekend. Heffron is currently sitting in 1st place all by himself with 11 points and an incredible 71.4% win rate. Not far behind in 2nd place is Napervillians with 10 points and the same 71.4% win rate. Tim is in 3rd place, also with 10 points, however his win rate is a bit lower at 64.3%. Finally, Team TNT is our last person with 10 points and a win rate of over 60%. We have 17 people with a win percentage at 50% or higher and we know from 13 years of running this pool that is not sustainable. Our winner in 2021, which was one of the highest winning percentages ever, was at 45.2%. We've had a few people around 48% in past years, but they did not win as they did not have enough bonus picks to get them to a victory. 🏆

14 of 32 conference tournament champions have been crowned and we're not even half way done. This graphic shows a nice summary of what is complete and which ones we still have left. Enjoy the next few days of basketball! 🏀
