It took until late afternoon for us to experience our first pool losses of the day, but it finally happened starting first in the Big South. (4) USC Upstate had an insane buzzer beater to beat (5) Gardner-Webb. From a conference tournament seeding perspective it was not an upset, but from a spread perspective Gardner-Webb was the favorite. In the Missouri Valley late afternoon game, in their Arch Madness debut, (4) Belmont lost to favorite (5) Indiana State by a slim margin, making PGilly the first one of us with 3 losses.
In other early conference tournament action, we'll go back to the Big South where (1) UNC Asheville easily disposed of (9) Charleston Southern and in the Missouri Valley (1) Bradley narrowly escaped with a win against (8) Northern Iowa. Honorable mention for Dan Sohler, in the Colonial Conference (13) Monmouth absolutely wrecked (12) Hampton in the opening round game this afternoon. Can Monmouth win the Colonial without Sohler picking them?
The standings are located here and updated with both the Gardner-Webb and Belmont losses from this afternoon. Same as yesterday, I'll post a longer blog entry late tonight after all the action is wrapped up, maybe 2 more entries if we have some significant upsets that impact our pool standings. We again have games that will go long past midnight tonight thanks to the West Coast Conference being played at the, not imploded, Orleans Arena in Las Vegas!
