Friday is another packed day of conference tournament games highlighted by the Ohio Valley semifinals and 3 new conferences tipping off. We will continue to see plenty of losses in our pool today as we have several matchups that don't allow everyone to escape without a loss. The standings are located here for those that need a refresher. I can't wait to see who escapes today undefeated. 📊
Big South
Action tips off at 11:00 AM CST this morning in the Big South with (1) UNC Asheville vs. (9) Charleston Southern. While from a seeding perspective that game looks lopsided, UNC Asheville is only a 9 point favorite, this should be a better game than we think. In the pool 46% of our picks are on UNC Asheville, at least half the pool is rooting for the upset. No one picked Charleston Southern. In the 1:00 PM CST game (4) SC Upstate takes on (5) Gardner-Webb and our pool has action on both sides, I'll get to make early spreadsheet updates today! The Big South action wraps up with a 7:00 PM CST game tonight that puts (3) Radford against (6) Winthrop, another matchup with pool picks on both sides.
Missouri Valley
In similar fashion, the Missouri Valley conference gets started at noon CST today with every single team in action. As a 10 point favorite, (1) Bradley starts out our Arch Madness day against (10) Northern Iowa followed by (4) Belmont vs. (5) Indiana State at 2:30 PM CST. While everyone can escape the first game without a loss the same cannot be said for the 2nd game. It's a big afternoon at the top of the standings for Izzy, with Indiana State and SC Upstate, as a few losses puts him from 1st to last.
Ohio Valley
We saved the best for last with the Ohio Valley conference semifinals tonight. The 6:00 PM CST game is (1) Morehead State vs. (5) Southeast Missouri State and a staggering 63% of our championship picks are on Morehead State. BI and Novak are sitting on Southeast Missouri State, making this a very important game. Morehead State is only favored by 3 points so this should be a close one. As someone that picked Morehead State, I am nervous. The 9:30 PM CST game gives us (3) UT Martin vs. (2) Tennessee Tech and it is amazing that not one person picked Tennessee Tech. We do have a significant amount of pool picks backing UT Martin making this game worth staying up for.
The Colonial Conference, Southern Conference and Summit League all tip off today with 1st round action, but no impact to our pool. By this evening we will have 12 of the 32 conference tournaments in progress, getting closer to half the conferences being tipped off. I will attempt multiple blog entries today since we're expecting so much movement in the standings at every point of the day.
