Only New Conferences Play Today: Welcome Big South, Northeast Conference and Ohio Valley

It is March! After an uneventful evening of conference tournament games last night, we have 3 brand new conferences tipping off today. The Big South, Northeast Conference and Ohio Valley will be the only conference tournaments in play today, all other conferences from the past 2 days are not in action. The next few days are typically the calm before the storm that we'll experience this weekend.

Starting with the Big South conference, we will only have two first round games and no one in our pool picked any of the teams playing tonight. On the left side of the bracket (8) High Point takes on (9) Charleston Southern and on the right side of the bracket (7) Campbell plays (10) Presbyterian. The game on the right side of the bracket may have the best team names we will see matched up over the next 2 weeks, Camels vs. Blue Hoses. Finally, I'm debating if I like the bracket graphic or not, but it's very on brand for the Big South and certainly has some creativity to it!

Next, we'll move to the Northeast Conference preview and every single team will be in action tonight! At least 1 person will take a loss tonight in this conference, but let's hope for many more. 26 people are pretty evenly split between (1) Merrimack and (2) Fairleigh Dickinson, but it's very unlikely that one or both of those teams lose in the first round. We have 3 people on (3) St. Francis PA who will be playing (6) Central Connecticut and we have at least 1 person on each side of (4) Sacred Heart vs. (5) Wagner. All 4 of these games tip off at 6:00 PM CST on ESPN3, you'll need to do a lot channel flipping or have multiple devices to keep up with this one. The NEC bracket is and always has been one of the best looking brackets.

We wrap up today's action with a preview of the Ohio Valley conference. One would think that the first round of the Ohio Valley conference would not have an impact to our pool, but that is very wrong. We have two people on (5) Southeast Missouri and one person on (6) SIU Edwardsville. SIU Edwardsville is a wild pick; I have to assume Steve Sullivan went to school there. The campus is awesome, Iannuzzi and I were right on the cusp of attending SIU Edwardsville. The Ohio Valley bracket is not terrible, it has a clean look, but lacks creativity.

By this evening we will have 7 conference tournaments in progress, that is more than 20% of the conferences. We're only 3 days in and things are really starting to heat up, the goal this week is loss avoidance. Every loss is meaningful, this year more than ever, with so many conferences wide open and no sure thing winners. I'll be posting a new blog, recapping today's action, with updated standings late tonight. Enjoy today's slate of games, it should be a great evening! 😀
