In the Ohio Valley conference, the five seed Southeast Missouri State is the first college basketball team to punch its ticket to the NCAA tournament in an overtime thriller! Only 2 people in our pool picked Southeast Missouri State, BI and Novak. Congratulations to both of those guys as they now have a commanding lead in the pool and already in the driver's seat for the "Lowest Winning Seed" bonus pot. 💰
In other pool related games we had some results that did not impact the standings and other results that caused more red on the spreadsheet. It looks like a murder scene. 🔻
Going in order, we start with the Sun Belt massacre where (3) Marshall was beat by (11) Texas State. This knocked out 57% of our picks in this conference and made most of us look like idiots picking Marshall. A team that was once considered an at-large selection now won't even be in the CBI. Moving next into the Northeast Conference, NCAA tournament ineligible (1) Merrimack cruised by (4) Sacred Heart, handing out a loss to Dan Sohler. Next, the Southern Conference gave us multiple huge upsets with (2) Samford losing to (7) Chattanooga and (3) UNC Greensboro losing on a buzzer beater to (6) Wofford. March. Is. Awesome. 😮
The Missouri Valley conference deserves its own paragraph for this update as we now have the Arch Madness championship game set. In the last Missouri Valley game of the evening (2) Drake easily beat (3) Southern Illinois, causing a pool loss for several people, including handing BI his very first loss. We have an all chalk matchup for the championship game with (1) Bradley vs. (2) Drake.
We had several other games that impacted our pool, but I only have so much time to write all this crap out. The standings are located here and we finally have some wins on the board. On Sunday we have 3 conference tournament championship games, we'll really see some standings movement after those are complete. The blog entry Sunday morning will focus on previewing those 3 championship games and what they mean for our pool.
Here is our "way too early" top 4:
